I still have too many books to read to take on more at the moment but have made a note of the Linda Grant one, especially as the father of one of these London migrants was Peter Heinrich von Sassen, a merchant's clerk living in Dover, which strongly suggests that he was an immigrant (and 'von' an addition)Sandra Davieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11788472031698175632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6405343172956271994.post-5897141963509496152011-08-31T16:52:59.401+02:002011-08-31T16:52:59.401+02:00Gregory, thanks for sending the link. that's s...Gregory, thanks for sending the link. that's such an interesting interview - i now included the link directly in the blog post.

And "Forbidden Bread" - i just looked for it, and added it to my future reads. looks like my journey of migration reads will continue :)Dorotheehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17071668426716077347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6405343172956271994.post-3893140391078111912011-08-31T09:19:00.253+02:002011-08-31T09:19:00.253+02:00Thanks for sending me the link to this post. This ...Thanks for sending me the link to this post. This sounds like a book I'd want to read so I'm adding it to my to-read list. I recently read Forbidden bread by Erica Johnson Debeljak, a New Yorker who moved to Slovenia right after the wars in ex-Yugoslavia began. This was another fascinating read as I could glimpse the process of individuation/assimilation from the point of view of the majority that Erica tried to assimilate to.Brigitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16607138790967163456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6405343172956271994.post-80337714727858711362011-08-30T14:22:19.777+02:002011-08-30T14:22:19.777+02:00Dear Dorothee:
