wizards, legends, and another Dorothy

one of the funky side-effects of my comic freelance work are: getting to read new comic books. like the ones above: there now is a new comic book adapation of Frank Baum's classic story "The Wizard of Oz". i read the book some years ago - it's special to me as the main character is a Dorothy, too - even a Dorothy who is on a journey in distant lands. the adaptation is coming with great artwork, and a deep care for the original story and characters.

another comic book i recently read is: "Mouse Guard - Legends of the Guard" an anthology of 14 comic artists with a frame story that sets the stage for all included stories. great concept and merge of styles, and very well done - one of the stories is an adaption of an Edgar Allen Poe tale, for example. no surprise this book received an Eisner Award last year.

and for the joy of the journey, and also for the joy of home, 3 quotes from the Wizard of Oz:

*

“If we walk far enough," says Dorothy, "we shall sometime come to someplace.”

*

“There is no place like home.”

*

"Never give up. No one knows what's going to happen next.”
