Kehlmann & Proulx

like so often, a great book waited to read in the hotel book shelf: E. Annie Proulx, The Shipping News. a book about life, newfoundland, the sea. an island, the perfect place to read it.

"You all know we are only passing by. We only walk over these stones a few times, our boats float a little while and then they have to sink. The water is a dark flower and a fisherman is a bee in the heart of her."

and following Proulx is another world book: "Die Vermessung der Welt", by Daniel Kehlmann. a book about the discoveries of the mathematic Gauß, and the scientist Humboldt. coming with travel reports from the days when the world wasn't coming with maps for all places yet. when one of the aims of going on a journey was to come home with a map of the unknown. and some new insights about the world, and maybe even, about yourself.
