photo friday: fluffy & "if you search for"

after photo friday's new theme "fluffy" was announced, i went searching for photos. no easy task, i first thought. then i remembered this moment by a lake, last year in France, where i sat and watched flowers send out fluffy seeds that went sailing in the wind. i tried a crop, and out came this image, titled azur.

and just like the flower seeds, this azur image went sailing, too: when i later mailed with Jeff Crouch about a blueprintreview image, he suggested a brief collaboration - and out came, based on a morph of the fluffy photo, this very different visual: "if you search for" - text by Ross Priddle, base photo by Dorothee Lang, merge by Jeff Crouch.

and interesting: the image above again is exactly 450x450 pixel. yet it doesn't look like a square.

mountain time

some mountain moments from the last days:



saturday: driving into the mountains ..
and it is rain (this is not far from Neuschwanstein Castle)



sunday morning, 7 a.m. in the Ötztal, Austria.
the mountain in the background is called "Timmelsjoch"
it marks the border to Italy



3 hours later: driving up towards Timmelsjoch
curves + cows + blue skies
+ ski villages that are deserted in summer



going for a hike. great views + tiny details
like those stingy mountain flowers (called "Disteln")

not sure when i will be blogging again, and from where, as the weather keeps shifting, together with the forecasts.

Wheelhouse: underwater / oranges / smiling land

in March, i worked on some collaborate visuals with Jeff Crouch.
3 of them are now up in Wheelhouse Issue 8:

some notes on the process:

"the 'Oranges' and 'Smiling' images are morphs, extreme morphs at that, which means I find an image (or make one) and morph it into something as completely abstract as I like." - Jeff

"i now returned to "underwater", and tried a new version, including german terms: "wasser" is german for "water", and "farbe" is german for "colour". i hadn't noticed before that "farbe" cuts into 2 english words nicely: "far" - "be". - Dorothee

What is The Wheelhouse Arts Collective, anyway?
The Wheelhouse Arts Collective is what it sounds like: a collection of wayward artists, many of whom are progressive activists, labor unionists, and dilettantes, stuck inside the cramped confines of a seafaring vessel's main cabin. Luckily, we have a steering wheel, some windows, and a compass. We know where we're going: towards land, specifically a land where art is defetishized (not appreciated but wrestled with) and politics is a civic duty, where the New Yorker is not the arbiter of literary history (and no, it's not necessarily Canada).

Wheelhouse also just published a press anthology: "Activism & The Avant-Garde"
