friday

note to self:
if you scribble a note to yourself,
make sure the note is readable....

*

& a morning stone:

7.30, church bells ringing
for unknown reasons.
maybe for a festivity,
or maybe for a death?

cause it's a long way home

today: thaw
today: the first birds singing
today: this world. in ways i can't blog about. i just hope all turns out well for someone in my family.
today: finding those lines at the bottom of "I found" by Mel Bosworth

People.
People are always the best things to find because when you find people you find yourself, too. And the world is big and it’s easy to lose yourself so it’s good to look for people because they can help you home.

today: remembering that other story that ended on "home". the one i once copied, but never was able to trace the author. now it is on: "Wild white horses" by Laurie Anderson. which ends on those lines:

And one more thing:
Keep moving. Cause it's a long way home.

today.

& the next stone:

finally jogging again,
after being on ice hold since weeks:
this feeling of space while passing empty winter fields

ice / rain

night rain falling on frozen ground
locking all morning passages,
turning houses into i(ce)slands

together with the birds, we wait for the sun
to enter the day

___
afterthought: now i just put the link + a quote up in twitter, of the #aros-tag-river. and of course, the ice/rain doesn't fit into twitter like this. which lead to this shorter version:

today: ice rain falling. no cars. no pedestrians. houses like i(ce)slands. together with the birds, we wait for the sun, to enter the day.

new moon sky

tuesday: new moon sky
and a solar eclipse for breakfast

"don't take a close look at the sun"
the articles warn, and show second hand pictures

i go looking for my eclipse sunglasses,
find a new pack of batteries, and a forgotten Pokemon.

crows, stones, void

the Winter 2010 issue of MiCrow is online, the theme is: "Void". the photo above is one of my contributions - "Still". it's based on a red-light hometown moment. more on the Void, in a Daily s-Press note: MiCrow Winter 2010: “Void” (Full of Crow).

and below, in crow connection, a moment from yesterday's drive - noted down for the "river of stones", this january task of paying attention and writing a daily "stone".

january drive:
lonely fields, frozen forests
then a triangle of crows
and a realization:
their feathers black,
to catch the sudden rays of winter sun

i haven't checked this assumption yet, but it would also fit for the "Amseln" (blackbirds) who stay here through winter.

& a related link: the "Still" photo is based on a photo that is up earlier in this blog: city tree. yes. same scene. very different mood.

virtual notes blogroll & a first january stone

there now is
a virtual notes blogroll
:)

piecing it together i stumbled across this beautiful wish, read 3 years ago, now online again:
"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself." - Neil Gaiman, Another Year

& on the note on making some art, there also is a first january stone, found while clearing some snow:

new year's morning:
the chatter of hidden birds.
the lightest snow falling.

happy new year! (or: learning to swim)

today: a new day.
today: thinking forward + backwards. sketching a timeline.
today: trying to find my way, as always.
today: getting ready for a river of stones, and browsing this exercise for the start.
today: going to the spa. and while swimming, and thinking of stones, noticing what is happening not far from me:

in the local swimming hall
a grown-up woman learns to swim
finally
before another year ends.

so good to see her, making this step. especially making it out there, in public, where everyone can see her struggle, and watch her try, and deal with her fear, with the difficulty to coordinate arms and legs in water, while kids swim by.
hats down, i thought. and remembered this line again:

every day, do something that scares you.

and this:

every day, try something new.

happy new year!
may 2011 be filled with happiness for you,
with love + luck
and inspiration + newness

Einen guten Rutsch!

(that's the german new years greeting: "A good slide into the new year!")

PS: the plan for today was to blog about the books i am reading these days, but then this moment happened. and after noting it down, i realized: this is such a good note to end + start a year. books to follow, next year.

solstice sky

this morning for solstice:
dramatic skies

while the moon
kept hiding
she felt this need
to sort
(every)things

warming up for a river of stones,
which now comes with a stone stream
