writing rules i came across recently:
- Don't Make a Scene, Make Trouble (Up the Attic Stairs / via handful of stones)
Often, what I get are vignettes, scenes, slices of a story. What I want is the whole story. And for that to happen on the page, the writer needs to do one thing. Include conflict. .. Your character needs to confront this conflict, or else. - Elmore Leonard's Ten Rules of Writing (a writers life / via everyday i lie a little)
My most important rule is one that sums up the 10.
If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.
