the rough plan for this holiday was: drive to France, cruise through the French Alps, and then maybe drive down to the South of France, for some beach time. but the weather forecast was a bit shaky, and just coming from Austria, we already had logged a good deal of miles.
so we tossed destinations. checked forecasts. and arrived at a closeby alternative: Titisee - a lakeside town in the Black Forest, conveniently located between some scenic mountains. so that's were we are now. and it's beautiful. water, sky, mountains. fine weather, some clouds, but also a lot of sun.
and the funny things is: for us, it's more like a regional destination, "just 2 hours from home". but strolling along the lakeside, you hear all kinds of languages: French, English, Spanish, Japanese... even some of the shop signs are multi-lingual. being here, it's a reminder that distance is relative, and sometimes the place you look for is really in front of your doorstep.

How true, Dorothee. We think that going far away is what makes a holiday. But sometimes an hour drive and you are in a place that entices as much as a place 10 hour drive away. Enjoy these peaceful moments, with time for the 3Rs: Read. Recharge. Rejuvenate.
