places, stones, palms

today: a day of virtual journeys. the next sequence of the identity issue is up, it includes a non-fiction that is set in Egypt: Bound by Jessie Carty - a reflections on artefacts, and on our current society, seen from the future. the picture combined with it is from the British Museum in London. i still remember standing there, in front of the sculpture, wishing they had built a kind of chapel for it, something that relates to it more than a room with glass displays and neon light. it also made me think that photos are a way for me to keep returning to journeys. London was summer 2009.

another journey of today: browsing the new edition of >language >place, and arriving at a beach in Texas, where Marus Speh created some flash shells: literature on found objects.

the 2 blue palms underneath are from L.A., as captured by Rose Hunter in her "Fotos del Dia". today's foto del dia is also a palm tree, in San Diego: white palm. which made me think of my own visit of those cities. that was in the time before digital photos. maybe i dig up some prints during the christmas holidays. i also thought of counting the pictures i took this year. i checked the digicam counter, but i don't think it gives the real number: january starts with #10654. now it's #30861. i took many of pictures this year, but i am sure i didn't take that many.

the stone image is from 3 weeks ago: a sunrise from Lanzarote. looking at the stones in it  made me think of the upcoming river of stones challenge in january again. still not sure where to "put" the stones: whether to include them in this blog - or whether to revive a writing blog i once started. but that would add yet another blog to things... so maybe i will write them in a paper book. and post the one or other in this blog. now, working on the collage, i thought: i could write them on stones, or other found objects.

I love this photo of yours - & yes, I think that's why - it's uncomfortable, a bit wrong, those lights and the glass. And Jessie's piece is wonderful as well.

Most pleased to find my palms in your collage! :) Thank you! :)
