world books, e-books, and 1 myriad of blinks

unplanned, yesterday turned into a day of books: while working on a layout for a website, an idea sparked: to put the books i blogged about this year online in a mosaic. all the images were there already, so this went easier than thought on first try. the page is online already, to read more about a book, just click it: book reading mosaic.

more books: earlier this week i came across an interesting listing: larger media pages now start to take a closer look at self-published e-books. GalleyCat compiled a Self-Published eBook Bestseller List that includes Amazon, Barnes&Noble and Smashwords.

and later, a film in TV about the power of words: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly: a 2007 biographical drama film based on Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir. Bauby, editor of Elle, suffered a massive stroke, which left him fully paralyzed - the only way left to communicate to him was by blinking his left eyelid. and based on this, a language therapist develops a system of communication - by blinking his left eye as she reads a list of letters she laboriously spells out his messages, letter by letter. and from there, they go and communicate. and start to write his memoir. blink by blink. letter by letter.
