"It became clear to me that the passage of landscape before my eyes was in itself a particular way of viewing the country. Hypnotic, the landscape forever approaching and passing, skimming along, the eye snatching a detail, noticing a cloud, a bizarre building, a blasted tree, a startled creature, but not being able to hold on to it as the view rolls by."
