the silicone chip

the silicone chip inside her head
gets switched to overload
and nobody's gonna go to to school today
she's gonna make them stay at home...

i still remember the time when i first heard the song. back then, english lessons had just started in school for me. i understood the refrain - i don't like mondays. but it took some more lessons until the full meaning of the song dawned on me, in all its darkness.

back then, running amok was something that happened only in other countries. not in Germany.

today, it happened again. in Alabama. and here. in Germany. in a school, about 30 kilometres away. a 17-year old former pupil ran amok there. then captured a car. drove off. drove past the town my parents live. and then drove to a place that is a mere 5 kilometres from here, a short walk from the Roman ruins i wrote about 11 posts below.

he left a trail of 15 dead people. 9 pupils. 3 teachers. and 3 pedestrians.

i heard of it in the train back home, but didn't realize it all happened so close, in places i know, in places i have been to myself.

it's scary.
