the first iris opened. it is one of the lilac ones, and didn't announce that it was about to open. it rather just leaped into bloom overnight, overtaking all others. such a good morning garden surprise. in contrast, the blue iris is still unwrapping. maybe it doesn't like the current skies:
the water drops you see on the petals of the lila iris aren't dew -- they are rain. i took the photo in a sunny moment in between drizzle clouds. but altogether, the weather seems to favour the iris growth. when the sun is back (hopefully tomorrow), i will go and count the developing petal stems. looks like there are about 30 this year. such an abundance.
