> language > place

in 2 weeks, the first language/place carnival will go online, on November 15th. i now started to prepare the carnival, adding links and notes as they reach me. yesterday, i took some times to figure out a good structure for the carnival blog post. at first i thought, it could develop as a chain of places, but now i looked for connecting themes in the posts, which probably is a more interesting approach, here some subtitles: "Road Trippin'", "(M)other Language", "Here and There"

also, i will try and group the blog carnival notes/links in groups of 3 or 4, each group with one key picture, so that it can be read in sequences, and isn’t one long list. the carnival is still open for contributions, here's the invite with details, deadline is Nov 9.

a related language link that would also fit the carnival: in September, i came across a blog note from China, where author Will Buckingham was asked for his Chinese name in a hotel to check out, which lead to pondering on living with different names: "Having more than one name".

and here, the original September blog post about reading Buckingham's travelogue from China, which also includes a link to a NY Times essay on language: currently reading... travelogue from China, Yiyun story, language essay - and here the direct essay link: "Does Your Language Shape How You Think?" - by Guy Deutscher.
