island diary: airplane moon + sunscreen + animals in the city

or, to be more accurate: pre-island diary. i'm leaving this sunday for Mallorca, and started this diary early to make the journey more real, to capture the moments, and to enjoy the island mood at home already

airplane moon
the sky yesterday evening: the moon, framed by airplane airlines.
(i think it was airplanes. or otherwise, these are zig-zag-clouds).

it was while phoning with a friend, and walking up to the window that i noticed it at all. and took the photo, one-handed.

today & sunscreen
today is about layouts and newsletters and deadlines. (what a word). and about comics and contests. and about shopping lists: bread. tshirt?. sunscreen. (which now makes me think of that epic essay with the advice: trust me on the sunscreen... now where was that.. here: Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young:
"Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4 p.m. on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing every day that scares you..."

qarrtsiluni: the Animals in the City are playing now!
in between things, i visited qarrtsiluni magazine - and their "Animals in the City" issue is now on. so good. i have a photo in it at some later point. and now listened to the opening text, which is an A-Z poem, and now just saw that a video from friend and fellow blogger Karyn Eisler is online: On the Wires

Karyn added some notes about the moment in her blog. This spoke to me:
"I was longing for all I’d just left in my vacation spot—the newness of the unfamiliar in a different culture.  I wasn’t psychologically ready to launch into my familiar, routinized life at home."
here, i am in the counterpart place, with 2 emotions weaving through the days: enjoying the joys of home, and longing for all Mallorca.

now, to get going and get that sunscreen.. and some grapes, maybe...
and then do something that scares me.

What a surprise to see my video image here, and also the notes from my blog! So interesting what you say about being in two places: here and there simultaneously. I wonder if you will maintain this duality when you are 'there' physically, or if thoughts of home will disappear ...

Hi Karyn! And such a good surprise to see your bird video pop up in the Animals issue.

But good question about the duality - i think it will fade on departure day. Another phenomenon this week brings is that i feel as if i am one day further, yesterday felt like thursday, and today like friday.
