2010, revisited

just some more days, then it's 2011. maybe this would be a good point to start to go through my published works of this year again, one month a day.

january
january was poetic. the year started with my first contribution to elimae, and with a collaborative cold couplet. later, a second poem followed, written on a thursday: Every Sunday.
- compass/ion (poem), elimae
- Cold (collaborative poem), Leaf Press
- Every Sunday (poem), eclectica
- & on the editing side, blueprintreview #23 (dis)comfort zones went online

february
february brought a highlight: my story collection in transit launched. still happy about this one. actually, in transit includes stories + poems + some photos, which corresponds with the other february publications:
- Rice (short story / dream series), Metazen
- lent (poem), fictionaut valentine's day massacre challenge
- Above Driven Red Unroll (4 photos), Writer's Bloc
- Choice (nano story), 50 to 1
- & on the editing side, the idea for Daily s-Press bubbled up

march
march brought questions, a trip, and a book blog. Karyn Eisler interviewed me in her blog: Living ?s for Dorothee Lang - a great reflective interview. also, i visited the Ruhrgebiet - culture city of europe 2010 (here's a travel post: Ruhr Metropolis). parallel to all the short works, i worked on revising a longer mansucript in 2010, that's why the usual publications were slower. but they come in a wild mix, for march: a zen poem + a wild monkey story.
- symbiosis (poem), a handful of stones
- Going Bananas (story) - fictionaut april fool's day challenge
- & on the editing side, Daily s-Press went online

april
april was very much about journeys. a photo i took in the British Library on a '09 trip to London made it into The New Yorker. and a poem i sketched during a flight went online in Spiral Orb. other publications included: a nano fiction, and an indefinite space moment. also, i had a ticket to Mallorca. then the ash cloud arrived, delayed travel plans, which lead to a daytrip to Lake Constance - and later, against the odds, Mallorca happened after all, and brought sun + some really good revision time.
- Castle of Words (photo+text), The New Yorker / book bench
- headed (poem), Spiral Orb
- (t)here (nano fiction), PicFic
- small suns (photo+text), indefinite space

may
again, a connected/mixed month: working on a hypertext-story brought 2 visuals, and a call for lists sparked a multilingual word list. the swan photo i took at Lake Constanc inspired a poem (which later received a pushcart nomination), and a Vegas photo from '99 found a place in Referential.
- Society of Swans (photo+poem), YB
- SinC(er)ity (photo US'99), Referential
- induction/deduction (collab. visusals), Otoliths
- Translations and Etymologies of Always (list), Emprise Review
- & on the editing side, BluePrintReview #24 went live: the MicroCosmos issue

june
june brought a trip to Vienna, where i met 2 online friends in real life: Karyn Eisler + a bit later: Diana, with whom i travelled to Bratislava. the june publications form an own journey: 3 photos, from different places, and different years:
- Predatorium (photo US '99), Referential
- Coptic Pizzeria (photo London '09), qarrtsiluni
- Sezession21 (photo Vienna '10), elimae

july
july brought surprises: the idea of a mixed summer special in Daily s-Press sparked an author talk series, and let me join 52/250, a project featured in said special. i am still part of it. july also brought my second metazen story, and 2 photos.
- author talk Rose Hunter + Dorothee Lang (talk), Daily s-Press
WhiteSlices (flash), both inspired by and written for 52/250 a year of flash.
- Sky Blue (story), metazen
- Salve, Constantia (photo '09 Lake Constance), qarrtsiluni
- Anitmaterie (photo '10 Vienna), Referential
- & on the editing side, i worked on the first bluerprint press micro novels

august
august turned into the month of collaborate challenges and works. inspired by 52/250, i joined the folded word 24/7 august challenge: 24 days of writing short pieces, and 7 days of revision. and sparked by the mirco novels, i created a micro collection: transition. at the end of the month, some mountain time in Austria waited.
- 2 layers (collab photo montages), Otoliths
- mind/media (collab visuals), Litterbox
- oenisplx igrnimeeg spnimirt (collab photo montages), foffof
- My Mask (personal essay), Broken Laptop / Writers in Masks-series
- 52/250 flash stories: Redeye Rabbit, 5000 years, Queue
- & on the editing side, BluePrintReview #26 went live: two²

september
september started with some days in the Black Forest, where i learned that sometimes, vast journeys wait in front of ones doorstep. which is also true for the works of september:  both "the fence" and "Perseid" relate to the garden here, and even (R)evolution was sparked by gazing at backyard flowers.
- the fence (poem), Shine Journal
- Perseid meteor conjunction + novo (poems), a handful of stones
- (R)evolution (collab hypertext), wheelhouse
- Vienna, Bratislava (2 poems), Istanbul Literary Review
- 52/250 flash stories: Conjugation of Responsibility, Choice 9, Unfinished
- & on the freelance side of things, there were 2 additional projects starting. which turned the following months into a challenge of its own kind. but somehow it fitted, after the august base camp, and with the ongoing 52/250 flashwriting.

october
in october, i visited the book fair in frankfurt. also, i joined the virtual festival of the Trees. together, this sparked the idea to start a blog carnival about language and place. october also was a month of photos: there were 2 photo publications ("Nikolaikirche" is from Leipzig in former East Germany + "Stepping Out" from Prague), the return to photo friday with architecture + fluffy, and the switch to a larger blog photo format.
- cutback/backcut (poem revised), Festival of the Trees
- Nikolaikirche (photo+text), qarrtsiluni "The Crowd"
- Stepping Out (photo), Referential
- 52/250: Imprints, Take the Long Way Back

november
in november, the first edition of the language/place carnival went online. and following the photo theme, it brought the idea to start a visual archive. at the end of the month, some island time waited in Lanzarote. while abroad, Melusine went live, with a photo i took in Bratislava as title: Crow Woman. - falling (flash), Festival of the Trees
- Crow Woman and 11 Messages+Retro (2 photos + story), Melusine
- 52/250: crossed, A like, Turns
- & on the editing side: edition #1 of  >language >place went online

december
some last days of island summer, then snow. back home, a beautiful mix of themes and formats: poetry, a story, carnival contributions, images, and: the launch of the identity issue. also: revisiting the year.
- mirrors / unsaved / f.or.ever.m.or.e (poems), Blue&Yellow Dog
- The First, the Last, the One (story), Foliate Oak
- Guardian / tree carnival + Vienna, Bratislava, Istanbul / language / place carnival
- 52/250: Nueva York
- Negative Sunset + Negative Harvest (2 images), Negative Suck
- on the editing side: blueprintreview #26: the identity issue

afterthought: maybe instead of revisiting everything at the end of the year, it would be an idea to revisit each month at its end, in a post, as a moment of pause + reflection in the flow of time.
